A quiet neighborhood in Tucson was thrust into chaos overnight as armed officers and a SWAT unit surrounded a home just miles from the residence of Nancy Guthrie, the missing mother of U.S. television host Savannah Guthrie.

Authorities confirmed that three people were detained during the dramatic operation, which unfolded roughly two miles from Nancy’s home. The raid was carried out by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, working alongside the FBI, after investigators acted on what they described as a significant lead tied to newly discovered DNA evidence.
DNA Discovery Sparks Sudden Action
The overnight operation came just hours after investigators revealed that unidentified DNA found inside Nancy Guthrie’s home does not belong to anyone known to be close to her — a discovery now described by officials as central to the case.
According to law enforcement sources, the forensic finding was compelling enough to justify a search warrant, triggering the SWAT deployment and the detention of three individuals for questioning.
However, officials were quick to stress that no arrests have been formally announced, and one individual was later released after being questioned.

Following the operation, authorities released only a brief statement confirming “law enforcement activity” related to the Guthrie case and noting that no further details would be shared at the FBI’s request.
“This is a joint investigation,” officials said, adding that additional information will be released when appropriate.
Behind the scenes, however, the case continues to intensify.
Vehicles Seized, Evidence Processed

As the raid unfolded, FBI agents were also seen inspecting a late-model Range Rover found parked at a nearby restaurant. The vehicle’s trunk was sealed before it was towed away for further forensic analysis. Officials have not yet explained why the car became a focus of interest.

Investigators have confirmed that biological evidence recovered in the case is now being processed by a specialized forensic laboratory in Florida, with local authorities reportedly spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to analyze the material.
A Case Filled With Unanswered Questions

Nancy Guthrie, 84, vanished from her Tucson home earlier this month under disturbing circumstances. Blood was found at the property, and investigators believe she was forced out of the house.
Since her disappearance:
Multiple ransom letters containing detailed information about her home have surfaced
Surveillance footage showed a masked, armed figure near the residence
A glove believed to be potential evidence was found miles away
A delivery driver was briefly detained — and released
Reward money for information has been increased to $100,000
Despite the mounting evidence, officials insist the investigation is still being treated as a rescue mission, not a recovery.
“These Cases Take Time”
Sheriff Chris Nanos cautioned against expectations of a quick breakthrough, acknowledging the emotional toll on the family while emphasizing patience.
“Some cases take months. Some take years,” he said. “But hope remains.”
For now, the arrests that many expected have not come — only more questions, more secrecy, and a growing sense that the truth may be far closer than anyone once believed.
